Cuban photo documentary master Raúl Cañibano Ercilla, was born in Havana in 1961, originally a welder he taught
himself photography, inspired by surrealist paintings and by
photographic greats, Josef Koudelka and Sebastian Selgado. His work over
the last twenty years reflects social and environmental themes of
post-revolutionary Cuba. A gentle compassionate and gifted man, Ercilla
epitomizes what Cornell Capa termed ‘the concerned photographer’.
Reportage aims to share rich visual narratives with the community,
focusing and celebrating tradition with contemporary edge in documentary
photography. The 2013 Festival is included in the Vivid 2013 program
and is supported by the City of Sydney.
