Michal Macku Exhibition at Wei Ling Gallery
I attended a private workshop and the opening of Michal Macku’s Photography Exhibition at Wei Ling Gallery yesterday evening. He’s a photographer from Czech Republic. All the hype about the artist centres around the technique he created, which he named “Gellage”: a combination of the word Gelatin and Collage. During the workshop, he explained almost to the point of step by step of how his “Gellage” was created. It is a complicated and tedious process of transfering the gelatin emulsion from an exposed negative to paper. The extracted gelatin emulsion is a soft thin film that can be manipulated and distorted by hand. Many of the artworks are combination of multiple layers. (...)
